Traditionally Handmade Idol, The Legend of Buddha Shakyamuni
The Legend of Buddha Shakyamuni is well known around the globe and according to Buddhist belief, Enlightenment is the realization of true reality, an "awakening" that allows one to understand the true nature of things. Shakyamuni believed that by practicing asceticism, a strict disciplined lifestyle, he could achieve enlightenment. Buddha is seen sitting serenely on a moon disc lotus seat, holding an alms bowl in his left hand and doing the mudra of the earth-touching with his right hand. With corals and turquoise, we have artistically decorated the halo and robe.

Siddhartha Gautama was born as the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom and nurtured to be a king in line with his royal father's aspirations. However, when he was around 29 years old, he learned about people's tremendous pain. He abandoned his palace life and gave up his magnificent robes and gold to uncover the reasons for this anguish and the methods to alleviate it. After nearly six years of study, self-deprivation, and severe concentration, he achieved his aim. He had attained enlightenment (a Buddha). He claimed to have then proceeded to a deer park in Sarnath (Benares), India, on the outskirts of Varanasi.
