This sculpture, adorned with gemstones and handcrafted by expert Nepalese artisans, elegantly symbolizes Himalayan Buddhism's sacred traditions, making it an appropriate addition to altars, meditation places, or sacred collections.
She is shown seated on a lotus throne, which signifies purity and spiritual awakening. The lotus grows from the mud but remains unstained, symbolizing Tara’s enlightened nature and her ability to remain pure amidst worldly suffering. A distinctive feature is her posture: her right leg is extended or pendant, ready to step down and help those in need, while her left leg is folded in meditation. This posture represents her readiness to act and her meditative wisdom. Her right hand is extended downward in the varada mudra (gesture of generosity or charity), symbolizing her granting of boons, protection, and compassion to devotees. Her left hand is held at her heart in the vitarka mudra (gesture of teaching ), holding the stem of a blue lotus (utpala), which blooms near her ear. The lotus represents purity, spiritual awakening, and her enlightened mind. Green Tara’s face is serene and compassionate, radiating kindness and reassurance, embodying her role as a savior and protector. She is adorned with a five-leafed crown, symbolizing the five Dhyani Buddhas, and wears rich jewelry and silken garments, indicating her status as a bodhisattva and her spiritual wealth. The elaborate throne and aureole (halo) behind her emphasize her divine status and the reverence in which she is held. The throne is decorated with intricate patterns, jewels, and sometimes turquoise or coral, reflecting Himalayan artistic traditions.
