This statue portrays the Buddha sitting peacefully on a moon disc lotus seat performing the "Bhumisparsa mudra," or "earth-touching stance," with the right hand on the ground representing the moment Buddha attained enlightenment claiming the heart earth as his witness, and the other holding an alms bowl, a symbol of the Buddha's denouncement of earthly desires.
